This is something that I reblogged on Tumblr at http://phoenixweasley.tumblr.com/ . It’s so good that I just had to share it with all of the Ron/Hermione fans who follow this blog also.
Top Five Ron/Hermione Moments That Are Not in the Films. (Photo credit to Sundaystorms on Tumblr.)
5. “You were going to ask me?”
I would have put the “I love you, Hermione” scene from Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince on this list as well.
It bothers me that #3 was filmed in a manner that directly contradicts the book. (I’m glad that scene of Hermione dancing with Viktor was cut.) We will probably never see scenes 5, 4, and 2, which is disappointing.
There’s still a slight chance that scene #1 will be on the DVD, but it probably won’t be. I think the torture scene at Malfoy Manor was edited a great deal because it was too intense. I still didn’t like Ron’s less emotional response to Hermione’s torture in the film. His reactions should have shown a lot more fear for her, anger at his helplessness to save her, frustration, etc. I was hoping to see Ron cry and pound the walls with his fists as he did in the book. What are your thoughts? Comments are welcome.

It would have been great to see all these moments in the movies. I’m glad they cut the dance with Krum too. If they were going to put something totally different from the book, I prefer they didn’t put anything.
And the torture scene, I agree with you that it was edited a lot. I remember that I read some reviews of an special test screening or something, when the editing of the movie wasn’t even finished and some people said that the Malfoy scene was like in the books and that Ron reacted irrationally at Hermione being tortured so that’s why I think they actually filmed that but then it was cut. It pisses me off.
I do agree that so much has been left out of movie#7, but since it’s only part 1 and still 2 1/2 hours, I don’t want to complain too much. The scene at Malfoy Manor, however, could have been developed more to show Ron’s reaction (per the book) to Hermione’s torture by Bellatrix. They could have omitted the dancing scene between Harry and Hermione in the forest instead. Having seen the movie, I am trying to read through the book again and I find myself saying too many times “where was that in the movie??” The part about Krum I had completely forgotten about! But I guess he wasn’t necessary in the film either.
I admit to also being disappointed at first that they didn’t have Ron be as freaked out like in the book, pounding the walls and stuff. Watching the movie a few more times and reading that passage from the book, I realize Ron’s reactions to her torture is what’s actually makes that scene more harrowing and not what’s happening to her. You feel more bad for Ron than Hermione! I think Rowling focused on Ron because it was better to convey how horrible the situation is through his emotions and pain than describing the actual physical pain Hermione was going through. In the movie they can actually show Hermione’s fear and pain and with Emma’s acting(which was terrific) you definitely feel for her. Her screams are just so intense and seemed so real. I think from what they show of Ron, he’s definitely upset and they have that angry at Wormtail.
For my part I was a little disappointed with the response from Ron after destroying the horcrux. Instead of being broken down and sad, he made a stupid reflection on the remaining horcruxes to find! Why did not they add the following scene where Harry is comforting Ron? Normally, Harry said to Ron that Hermione is crying for days and that she is like a sister to him. This is unfortunate. Don’t you think?
I’m glad you mentioned the film’s portrayal of Malfoy Manor. This is, in fact, my greatest complaint about this film. I love everything else. All the other deviations from the book work at least as well if not better than their print counterparts. However, portraying Malfoy Manor as “oh, Hermione is screaming her head off and getting her FREAKING ARM carved up. Hey, male main characters, pay no attention. Hey kids in the audience, laugh at Doby!”
What. The Hell.
This is made even worse by Emma Watson’s proficiency at screaming and the seeming-intentional rape imagery. Is torture and “rape” somehow below the characters’ and audiences’ notice?
